#FeatureFriday - The Blum Experience Centre

For this week’s #FeatureFriday, we wanted to pay homage to the LDL team’s day out at the Blum Experience Centre, and what an experience it was!

Blum UK

Stepping through the doors of Blum’s headquarters in Milton Keynes, we were greeted with smiling faces and knowing smiles. Unsure of what to expect, we were ushered into a circular room where we were offered the privilege to be the first outside eyes to view their brand-new introductory video. Giving nothing away, its safe to say we left feeling invested in the Blum experience!

The Blum Experience

From then on, we were escorted by our lovely host Amanda as she took us on the tour. Regailed with the history of Blum and what a tale it was! From their humble origins in Höchst Austria, to becoming the globe spanning household name we all know today, Blum have gone on quite the journey. We were shown one of horseshoe studs Julius Blum began manufacturing and given the tale of how he came to make his first hinge.

From horseshoe studs to the global prestige of being one of the world’s leading manufacturers of furniture fittings, all in the space of just 66 years. It’s a tale fraught with difficulties and sleepless nights, as every good story is, but through it all Blum have maintained their peerless dedication to innovation and quality. It’s that very drive which has cemented their name as a beacon of excellence worldwide.

After the company’s history, were given a showcase of Blum’s development as a brand. Alongside the evolution of their hinges and runners, we were given an insight into their values. A handy video told us how the company employs thousands of young apprentices globally, and how they’re offered financial incentives for excelling in academia, or benchmark achievements such as sporting success or quitting smoking. Blum’s apprenticeship program, pioneered in 1970, has been implemented in various forms in numerous locations globally. However, the focus remains the same, to “pioneer the way for tomorrow’s engineers!”

Next up, we took a tour of their vision for the future of Kitchen, Bedroom, and Bathroom design. The kitchen envy was strong as we took in the heights of what a Blum kitchen could be! Moreover, we were fascinated to see the innovations on space optimisation they’re ready to introduce for the future. Do you want to see what the home of tomorrow looks like? Then pay a visit to Blum UK!

Further in, we experience Virtual Reality headsets as we take a tour of the virtual Blum assembly line. We can tell no expense has been spared as we delve deeper into the heart of the Experience Centre, but the technological innovation didn’t stop there! Our tour continues with a guided walk around the warehouse and a sneak peek into their incredible automated picking process. Apparently just a microcosm of the automation behind Blum Austria, Blum UK’s system is still an impressive sight and it operates on a simply vast scale.

Finally, regretfully, we bid goodbye to our gracious host Amanda as she introduces us to Blum’s technical guru, David. Never before had any of us met a man so informed or insightful on drawers, hinges, and runners! The depth of his expertise is truly an experience in itself and our whole team gained valuable product knowledge. From AVENTOS to Blumotion, we were given the rundown of all things Blum. After that, we’re granted a further tour of Blum’s kitchen displays and we’re introduced to the depth of their planning for the future.

Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end, and sadly, this was our tours final stop. Before we left, there was time for a quick photo and some warm goodbyes, and I know the entire LDL team walked away having learnt a lot, reinvigorated in their passion for the industry!

LDL Components

We heartily recommend the Blum Experience Centre to anyone interested in Blum or KBB as a whole. We had no idea to expect, but whatever we’d thought was blown out of the water by the depth and polish put into every aspect of it. We’d like to offer a special thanks to Amanda and David, our gracious hosts, and invite any and all of you to head down to Milton Keynes and pay a visit to Blum UK. Everyone needs to experience the Experience Centre!
